Surfing and Being Jewish

beingjewish@home
Thanks to the Internet, anyone with a computer connected to the World Wide Web can learn about anything. As a Jew, this means you now have access to more information about Judaism than at any other time in the history of our people. To help you find web sites of value, we will feature them in this new section.
www.kosherfinder.com

Lest you think you have no use for this site because you don’t keep kosher, hold on one second… If you are one of the millions of Jews who keep kosher worldwide, the reasons for loving kosherfinder.com are probably pretty obvious. This site is a true gold mine of information complete with separate recipe, restaurant, and travel databases as well as a lifestyle section with everything from kosher assisted living to kosher stadium stands (for all your ballpark needs).
In addition, it has kashrus alerts for items and brands falling in and out of favor as well as industrial and general product listings for purchasing just about anything kosher — from detergents to cake decorations to oven cleaners.
Now, whether you keep kosher or not, here’s a great way to use this resource to suit your own needs: let’s say you’re headed on a Parisian holiday and would like to link up with the Jewish community in Paris. One way would be to search for kosher restaurants in Paris using the search command in kosherfinder.com — when you do you’ll see that you come up with nearly 130 of them. Then take it a step further and use the map function of the listings to pinpoint a nucleus of maybe 10 restaurants and its likely you’ve found a pocket of the Jewish community of Paris to go check out.
Lastly, kosherfinder.com has a bulletin board section where you can post questions or comments on a variety of topics. In addition, a cadre of experts with a variety of backgrounds in a variety of fields can help answer any question you might have relating to keeping kosher or being Jewish.
   Check out kosherfinder.com — it’s a jackpot.

www.shamash.org/trb/judaism.html

Launched six years ago, the Judaism & Jewish Resources link found in shamash.org is truly a portal to all things Jewish. It boasts a large table of contents to help direct your search for anything from the State of Israel to news and media to Jewish calendars and beyond. Mailing lists, Jewish learning opportunities, and Jewish art and museums are also well represented.
What this website lacks in layout and graphic design, it makes up for in its seemingly unparalleled listings of Jewish resources and all things Jewish. This terrific portal to the Jewish web community is one worth bookmarking or listing as one of your "favorites." Check out the larger shamash.org as well.

www.maven.co.il

With better graphic design and a bit more gusto, www.maven.co.il is an equally compelling portal to everything Jewish under the sun. Arts and entertainment, history, holidays, Israel, and travel are a few of the big categories you’ll find for perusing when you log on to this site. ‘Maven’ also lists its top 50 most popular sites, which often have a lot of whatever holiday is nearest or sites about Israel, but here and there can link you up with something of interest that others are interested in too. This site will help make you a Jewish surfing maven!
